The book club meets on the first Friday of the month at 3.30pm to discuss a diverse range of books. It's a very friendly crowd in a comfortable corner of the library! Additional group members are very welcome, please call in or email for details.

I would like to start an interest group or a formal class in the following topics:
1) The interpretation of reality through literary representation, from the ancients to the twentieth century. The aim of these sessions is to look at the way great European writers have shaped their ideas of reality, examining the values and beliefs that underly the different writings. Each session would focus on a close textual analysis of a short extract from one particular work, as an initial point of debate to explore what lies behind it.
2) The representation of Indian cultures in Latin American fiction.
3) The Latin American short story: more of the same, or a different way of writing the world?
